Kingston, Jamaica - December 9, 2013: The City And Guilds of London Institute (UK) has appointed EUR ING Professor Gossett Oliver, OD, JP, Deputy President (Acting), University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech) as an External Verifier for its vocational educational programmes in Antigua, and Barbuda, Argentina, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, Bolivia, Brazil, British Virgin Islands, Canada, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines. His appointment was made by the Head of International Quality and Excellence, City and Guilds. The verification and assessment process will be done primarily online using the propriety software owned by City and Guilds.
EUR ING Professor Oliver who is Fellow, City and Guilds of London Institute - the highest honour awarded by the institution, notes that his new role as External Verifier accords well with his current role as Chair of Jamaica's Apprenticeship Board, in its thrust to "facilitate a modern workforce and to meet the demand of a high level trained workforce paralleling that of a academic pathway where learners can be duly recognized, certified and licensed as being at the pinnacle of their profession in practice and theory."
Prof. Oliver has had a distinguished career in Production Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering and Engineering Education. He holds a PhD degree in Metallurgical Engineering from Brunel University in the United Kingdom and is a EUR ING Chartered Engineer; and Fellow of the Jamaica Institution of Engineers.
