Sunshine Girls Stay Positive!

Report just received from Netball Jamaica
After yesterday’s contest, Day 3 was a rest day for the Girls.   With no training on the schedule, the Girls were able to enjoy some of the other sides of NWC2015.   Though losing the game and bragging rights to England less than 24 hours earlier, the Girls remained positive in their outlook for the rest of the tournament.
To kick things off, four of the players, Sasher-Gaye Henry, Anna Kay Griffiths, Khadijah Williams and Kadie Ann Dehaney paid a courtesy call at FanFEST – the NWC2015 ultimate fan experience.   Here they took photos with fans, signed autographs, did interviews, participated in fun-filled netball related activities and added to the experience of the fans by interacting with them.
They then joined the rest of the players, coaching staff and management at a brunch hosted by Jamaican businessman Brian Johnson, under his brand “Jammin’ Jerk”.   The attendees were headlined by Mr Marco Breakenridge, the Honorary Consul of Jamaica in Australia and Dr Stephanie Fletcher, President of the Jamaica Association of Australia.   Though the numbers were small, the outpouring of warmth was appreciated by all; it seemed like a real homecoming!   In the words of Dr Fletcher, “…it come ‘een like Christmus”.  Mr Breakenridge presented tokens to all the players and Sunshine Girls vice-captain Paula Thompson made a presentation to Mr Breakenridge.   President Marva Bernard made a presentation to Mr Johnson and thanked him for his support to the visiting delegation.   Other Jamaicans who attended expressed appreciation at being able to meet and interact with the girls.
Thereafter, the Girls returned to their accommodation where they watched the Australia/New Zealand match up on TV.   The tournament form book was ripped up after New Zealand prevailed 52:47 with their new look team.
This result means the Girls will now end up in the second round group with New Zealand and not Australia as previously predicted.
The day ended with a birthday cake to celebrate Sunshine Girl Stacian Facey’s birthday.
The Girls play their final preliminary round group game against the Scottish Thistles on Monday at 7:20pm (Sydney time), before getting ready to play New Zealand on Tuesday at 8:20pm.
