Today is the 150th Anniversary of the Morant Bay Rebellion

MESSAGE FROM JOAN 'JOY' GRANT CUMMINGS

A CALL TO ACTION!!!

This Sunday, October 11, 2015 will celebrate  the 150th year since the Morant Bay rebellion led by National Hero, Paul Bogle.
August 12 was the actual 150th anniversary of Paul Bogle's long march from Stony Gut to Spanish Town. The Rebellion was a stand for justice, the vote and the acquisition of land for the landless in the wake of emancipation from British enslavement. On  SUNDAY, OCTOBER 11 during Heroes Month, we will re-enact our ancestors walk from Stony Gut to Morant Bay to dialogue with the then Governor Eyre for rights and justice.

Note there were three attempts between 1866 and 1868, to prosecute Governor John Eyre for murder and abuse of power and for his role in sanctioning the court martial and execution of Paul Bogle, George William Gordon [also a National Hero]  and others.

This is one of a number of re-enactments, over the years, building towards what the National Commission on Reparations hopes will result in a powerful collective call for reparations in this the 150th year since the  forty-five [45] miles walk from Stony  Gut to Spanish Town!
Bogle led a delegation to King's House, located then in the Old Capital of Spanish Town. He wanted to meet with Governor Eyre to make his case on behalf of the suffering people of St Thomas. It was a mere 31 years after the declaration of Emancipation. And the legacy of enslavement was bitter.

We will meet at Stony Gut at 6 AM and start the March at 6.30 AM.

We are asked to assemble in the Morant Bay square around 8.30 AM for a panel discussion, and the reading of the names of the over 400 who were massacred by British Colonial forces under Gov Eyre.  It is at that time the appeal for reparatory justice for martyrs will be done

The event is being organized by the National Commission on Reparations - Jamaica in collaboration with Running African (Irie FM Radio).

In 1865 people walked and took horse and buggy to get to Stony Gut. We can drive and take the bus.

WE ENJOY OUR FREEDOM PAID FOR BY OUR ANCESTORS WITH THE 'CURRENCY' CALLED LIFE – THEIR BLOOD, SWEAT, TEARS AND SPIRIT OF JUSTICE!!
THIS IS A CALL FOR REPARATORY JUSTICE!! TAKE A STAND!
