Verlando Small wins 10th Digicel Rising Stars

In a star-studded finale, celebrating the 10th Anniversary of Digicel Rising Stars on Television Jamaica, Verlando Small emerged the winner. This is the first time that an instrumentalist is winning the event. The saxophonist's elated Mother embraced her son, who won a million dollars cash, a high-end smartphone and heavy credit.
My Twitter timeline lit up as folks congratulated Digicel for sponsoring a programme that literally made stars of several Jamaican unknowns - namely Christopher Martin and Romain Virgo, Noddy and the fast rising Dalton Harris. I believe Rising Stars dealt a blow to the vulgarity that was overtaking Jamaican music - as well as to corrupt DJs who stood in the way of talented but financially challenged artists.
Big congrats to Michael Hogan, owner of Rising Stars for keeping his show so strong for a wonderful 10 years!
Of course - I am delighted - I have been voting for Verlando!
