The power of Twitter

Even in our small country, Jamaica, the brightest and best in media and the private sector are fully engaged on Twitter. The public sector is yet to use this medium effectively.

Only yesterday, Cliff Hughes, founder of Nationwide News Network, broke the news on Twitter that there would be a leadership challenge in Jamaica's Opposition Jamaica Labour Party.

This week, in an article headlined 'Nasdaq can kiss Twitter goodbye', Forbes magazine explores the upcoming Twitter IPO and the growing power of this social medium.

'Twitter has helped lead revolutions in foreign countries, particularly the one seen in Egypt, and was recently the subject of a CNBC documentary, named #TwitterRevolution,' said the writer. 'Twitter's importance in media has grown exponentially over the past few years, as news now breaks on Twitter and people find out about events faster than they ever did in the past.'
