Food
For the Poor (FFP) has created an opportunity for members of the Jamaican
Diaspora to make a difference in the lives of countless children in Jamaica in
need of medical care through the establishment of a donation page on its Head
Office website dedicated to the Shaggy Make a Difference Foundation. The global
community and Jamaicans overseas can now make electronic donations directly to
the Shaggy and Friends Foundation by going to the link foodforthepoor.org/teamshaggy4kids.

“Food
For the Poor is pleased to join in this very important effort that will bring
much needed support to the Bustamante Hospital For Children,” said Chairman of
Food For the Poor Jamaica, Andrew Mahfood. “We are only too happy to increase
opportunities for the Shaggy Make A Difference Foundation to raise funds for
the purchasing of life-saving equipment for the hospital. We applaud Shaggy for
his effort and, having recently honoured him at our 30th Anniversary,
are glad that we can participate to assist with this wonderful initiative.”
Establishing
this link has allowed persons anywhere in the world to make donations at any
time. There is also an added benefit as donations are tax deductible under the Internal
Revenue Code section 501 (c) (3) for those filing overseas tax returns.
The
Bustamante Hospital For Children is the only paediatric hospital in the
English-speaking Caribbean, providing care for countless children. The demands
on the hospital are great and this has placed a strain on its already limited
resources. It is through the help of generous donors such as the Shaggy Make A
Difference Foundation, that the hospital is able to acquire not only much
needed life-saving equipment, but in some cases, some basic supplies that the
hospital needs. The foundation has already raised approximately US$1,000,000.00
and provided over 400 pieces of equipment for the hospital. This year, the goal
is to raise US$500,000.00, to assist in furnishing a state-of-the-art cardiac
unit for children. Every donation counts and the diaspora will not be left out
in this effort. FFP is hoping that establishing this link on its website, will
significantly increase opportunities for persons to donate with all proceeds
going toward the Bustamante Hospital for Children.
For its part, FFP is no stranger to the Bustamante Hospital,
having provided general, medical and pharmaceutical supplies over the years. Establishing
this partnership with the Shaggy Make a Difference Foundation was therefore a
natural fit with FFP’s mission.
This move by FFP will provide additional fundraising
opportunities for the star studded Shaggy and Friends show which takes place on
Saturday, January 4, 2013.
