The Gleaner - November 15 2012 - Kingston, Jamaica: Lorna Myers, co-founder of Restaurants of Jamaica (ROJ) and franchise operator of KFC and Pizza Hut, says she is totally overwhelmed to be inducted into the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) Hall of Fame.
Myers, the first woman to be accorded such an honour, was inducted during a glitzy affair at the Wyndham Kingston hotel last night.
"I honestly questioned if they had made a mistake! Did I deserve such an honour? All I did was work hard all my life. But, needless to say, I felt truly honoured," Myers told The Gleaner yesterday.
The PSOJ's Hall of Fame induction has been an annual tradition since 1992. Each year, the organisation pays tribute to one private-sector leader who has made innovative and sustained strides in the development of the sector over a minimum of 25 years, demonstrates extensive knowledge in his/her company's respective industry and is devoted to both the advancement of this industry and national development.
Myers, along with her late husband, Anthony, founded and developed ROJ in 1975. The company holds the franchise for KFC and Pizza Hut. She became chairman and CEO of ROJ after the death of her husband, 15 years after ROJ was founded.
With her son Mark Myers now the CEO and daughters Michelle and Tina also involved in the business, the PSOJ's newest Hall of Famer has already figured out what she intends to make of her future.
"I plan to enjoy life! It's time to relax and enjoy the fruits of the hard work. I'd like to enjoy my family and friends. I will always oversee the business and guide its growth and development offering support wherever I can," she told The Gleaner.
